The jostaberry is a complex-cross fruit bush in the genus Ribes, involving three separate species, but is essentially a hybrid between a currant and a gooseberry. The deep red, almost-black fruit is high in vitamin C and forms in large clusters, ideal for juices, jams and jellies, and fresh-eating. These cold hardy plants (down to zone 4) are long-lived, thornless, and productive once established.
